Welcome to the 93rd Edition of the Carnival of the Godless! First off, thank you, Brent, for allowing me to host. I consider it a tremendous honor. Anyone who has not been to Unscrewing the Inscrutable should take the time to visit and sign up for the RSS feed.
This edition of COTG is brimming with the usual thought-provoking and often controversial questions and arguments of the heathen community of non-believers. So please check out the many great posts included in this edition and if you are a fellow godless heathen, be sure to submit to COTG #94.
Enjoy the carnival and be sure to come back and visit often! And remember, even Einstein was a godless heathen! We’re in good company.
Travis Morgan presents The Evasive God posted at Travis Morgan – Reflections of a Creative Intellectual
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to ponder about and be skeptical of as to why it is that people who declare to have such a close relationship to god and even go so far as to claim that they “know” god, why they are so reluctant to provide even a moderately clear and coherent description of god. The obvious answer is that they really don’t have the close relationship to god that they claim they do, and of course how can they, since god is just a concept, a meme that they have acquired and modified to accommodate their own personal usage of. To give a clear definition of god would be to reveal that god is their own personally modified concept riddled with traits that they have applied to it to fulfill their own personal needs.
The Barefoot Bum presents The imprimatur of truth posted at The Barefoot Bum
Lacking extensional meaning, religion can have only intensional meaning. Religion refers to a set of ideas within our heads. And the ideas that religion refer to are invariably pernicious: social, cultural constructs that are falsely and fallaciously given the imprimatur of objective truth. And it is precisely this religious component of Islamic culture that is directly responsible for these brutal murders.
Greg Perkins presents Why the New Atheists Can’t Even Beat D’Souza: Science vs. Miracles posted at NoodleFood
The entire point of miracles is to provide evidence of divine intervention, and surprises which may only reveal a current lack of understanding can’t accomplish that: by that measure, even the tricks of magicians would count as miracles. Indeed, much of what we enjoy in our modern world would have been considered miraculous in previous times, from vaccines and medications, to cars, and the Internet and on and on. Yet none of these prove or even suggest a possibility that there is a God.
Greta Christina presents Can You Prove It Didn’t Happen? Progressive Religion and the Standards of Evidence posted at Greta Christina’s Blog
The only reason — and I mean the ONLY reason — that the standard God hypotheses have more gravitas than the flying spaghetti monster or my secret talking cats is that lots of other people believe them. And that lots of other people have believed them (or an assortment of evolving versions of them) through history. And that some very smart people have twisted their minds around the problem and come up with some very clever, if rather contorted, defenses of the proposition. If it weren’t for the gravitas built up by centuries of belief, we’d have no more reason to take any of the standard God hypotheses seriously than any of the goofy joke religions that atheists make up to entertain themselves.
steppen wolf presents is moderate Islam a lie? (part I) posted at the skeptical alchemist
Now, is there any evidence, in the Quran, the Hadith, or the writing of Muslim scholars, against the argument brought forth by the moderate Muslims? That is, is there any evidence that discrimination against women is actually enshrined in the sacred texts of Islam, and in the works of revered Muslim scholars?I am afraid there is. So I guess I will follow the same line of argument, and let this evidence speak for itself.

Frank Johnson presents Random Book Review: What Do You Care What Other People Think posted at Frank the Financially Savvy Atheist (The F.S.A.).
The Ridger presents “God will save the Chesapeake crabber” posted at The Greenbelt, saying, “Is God really watching over crabbers, despite his dislike for people who eat crabs? Well, they think so, anyway.”
Mark Koester presents Daniel Kemmis’s Communitarianism: Towards the ‘Human Enterprise’ of Community and Community Building posted at The Mystic Atheist, saying, “This post critiques our individualist, liberal conception of self and community and, in turn, attempts to formulate a communitarian alternative of community as a shared activity.”
John W. Loftus presents Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Holy Foreskin posted at Debunking Christianity, saying, “Really interesting to see what believers think and do.”
Allen in Fort Worth presents Sparrows Are Falling posted at The Whited Sepulchre, saying, “here’s a post where I combine an abandoned kitten, dysfunctional families, the cyclone in Burma, and Jesus’s words about falling sparrows. Be sure to read the comments.”
Ron Britton presents God Did Not Make Klingons posted at Bay of Fundie, saying, “This article is guest-written by ParrotLover.”
Allen in Fort Worth presents Cal Thomas Says Barack Obama’s Not A Christian posted at The Whited Sepulchre, saying, “here’s my analysis of an idiotic Cal Thomas column.”
